About

Handelssted is Danish for “trading post.”

As I have gone to events; Renaissance Faires, Comic Conventions, Farmers Markets, Art Fairs, and many other events, I have gotten to know a few of the vendors and almost all of them said, “they would like to get their wares to more people (events)”. Those artisans, who this is their livelihood, smaller or one day events are cost ineffective for them. This is where Handelssted comes in, I am willing to go to these “smaller” events and bring their wares. I believe in artisan hard work, there will be only handmade wares sold through Handelssted.

As for the name Handelssted, I was talking to one of my friends about history. Vikings came up, on how Vikings would plunder one place, keep what they needed and trade the rest. I thought about the vendors who I have been speaking with and said if I could do that for them (not plunder but trade their goods in new events).

I started thinking about the business name and I wanted something to represent my idea, trading post. The Viking discussion with my friend made me look into my heritage. My Grandfather was born in Ukraine so I started looking there. Why there? The Rus who were in Ukraine were Vikings. Rus means red, the Vikings had red hair. So…great idea but there are no easily translated words or phrases in Ukraine for trading post. I had to look elsewhere. Started with with Danish because of my other Grandfather heritage and there it was…

And Handelssted was born.

Welcome, Enjoy, May the Wind Fill Your Sail.
